Civil Society Organizations From The Regions Of Armenia Improve Their Project Management Skills

#Armenia
07/06/2016

On June 01-02, 2016, representatives of CSOs from the regions of Armenia participated in a 2-day training in Yerevan where they improved their skills on project management.

Why the topic of project management was chosen for this training? In order to be effectively involved in policy dialogue and reform agenda, CSOs need to develop their organisational capacities to become stronger and more professional in their respective areas and fields of interest. One of the factors to achieve this is developing project management skills of CSOs staff, which would allow them to operate more effectively and efficiently, and to introduce practices that will increase the success rate of their activities.

According to the mapping study conducted by the TA project to analyse civil society landscape in Armenia, quite often private companies find CSOs unable to successfully manage funds, and thus prefer to implement charitable projects themselves. Thus, demonstrated project management skills can also help CSOs in fundraising activities and increase their overall sustainability.

Therefore, this training was designed to strengthen technical skills of selected Armenian CSOs in the project management area.

The training targeted local CSOs from marzes (regions) of Armenia, which have relatively limited experience in the area of project management.

During the two days of training, the representatives of non-governmental organizations working in very different areas in the regions of Armenia were able to ask the trainers specific questions about supervision (monitoring) of projects and implementation mechanisms, management of human resources, aspects of project management for the peace building, conflict transformation projects, etc, in addition to learning about general issues of project management.

At the end of the training, participants developed and improved their skills on:

  • project development, setting goals and objectives
  • activities and budget management
  • reporting and project closure.

The training was implemented by NGO “European Integration” within the EU-funded project “Civil Society. Dialogue for Progress”. It was the second training of the training programme of capacity development of regional NGOs of Armenia – the first training took place in April.
