New Start, New Opportunities: Next Phase of the EU’s Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility

13/07/2021

We are happy to announce that a new phase of the EU-funded Eastern Partnership Civil Society Facility is starting and will run until December 2024. The new project will be implemented by a consortium led by GDSI and will bring together new and old team members from its previous phase.

As before, the project will aim to strengthen the role and increase the capacity of civil society organisations and activists from the six Eastern Partnership countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.

In a nutshell, this is what our project will offer civil society organisations and activists from the region:

  • Capacity Building Activities:

Civil society organisations and activists will have the opportunity to participate in existing (and potentially new) courses, trainings and webinars developed either by the project or by external service providers. The team will identify new learning opportunities during the needs assessment which will take place over the coming weeks, but the project team will also react to specific suggestions and demands from civil society.

  • Civil Society Hackathons and Civic Tech Activities:

We will continue organising annual hackathons bringing together IT experts and representatives of civil society to develop new ideas and tools for transparency, accountability and participation which would be relevant to the Eastern Partnership countries. Hackathons will focus on specific societal challenges, identified in collaboration with civil society representatives.

  • Civil Society Fellowships:

We will continue our Fellowship Programme and will support 120 new civil society activists throughout the duration of our project – civically minded women and men who demonstrate a deep commitment to creating positive change in their communities. This time the Fellowships will also include the Civic Digital Fellowships, allowing fellows to use their expertise to develop technological solutions for community needs.

  • Civil Society Networking and Ad-hoc Support:

We will continue to support regional networking and the participation of civil society representatives in relevant regional and international events. The project will also be providing ad-hoc support to a number of civil society representatives on their different initiatives.

  • Communication Activities:

We will support the beneficiaries of regional and bilateral EU funds in developing communication activities to increase the public awareness of CSOs, improve their public image and promote EU support to civil society.

  • Studies and Research on Civil Society Issues across the Region:

We will produce new thematically or regionally focused mappings and studies on civil society at the request of the EU.
