Civil Society Organizations From The Regions Of Armenia Strengthen Their Capacity

#Armenia
26/04/2016

On April 21-22, 2016, representatives of CSOs from the regions of Armenia participated in a 2-day training in Yerevan on improving capacities on project design and fundraising.

Why were these specific topics chosen? According to the mapping study conducted by the TA project to analyse civil society landscape in Armenia, financial sustainability is one of the biggest challenges for Armenian CSOs. Lack of financial sustainability hinders the strategic development of Armenian CSOs and negatively affects their institutional capacities. At the same time, related problem is the lack of skills in the area of project design, which provides a significant barrier to fundraising efforts.

Therefore, the objective of the April training was to strengthen technical skills of selected CSOs in Armenia to enable them for more effective project design and fundraising activities. The training targeted local CSOs from marzes (regions) of Armenia, which had relatively limited experience in these areas.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations working in very different areas in the regions of Armenia together with the trainers Anna Yeghoyan (“Youth Initiative Centre”) and Karine Ohanyan (NGO “European Integration”) discussed different questions concerning preparation of project proposals to be submitted to international and other funds, ways of searching for grants, opportunities for mobilizing financial resources for the needs of Armenian NGOs, etc.

At the end of the training, participants developed and improved their skills in the following areas:

  • Fundraising concepts and steps for implementation
  • Fundraising techniques, links to the projects and fundraising strategy development
  • Development of project ideas and transforming them into projects
  • Project writing and application

The training was implemented by NGO “European Integration” within the EU-funded project “Civil Society. Dialogue for Progress”. It should also be noted that it was the first training of the training program of capacity development of regional NGOs of Armenia – the second one will happen in early June.
